How does it work to see a counseling student intern or associate (pre-licensed) clinician?

Seeing a counseling student intern or an associate (pre-licensed) clinician works basically the same as seeing a licensed clinician. The main difference being that student interns and associates are required to be under supervision. Supervision, in this case, does not mean the licensed person is in the room with the clinician during a session, but the unlicensed person meets weekly (or more often) with the licensed person they are being supervised by. This is to ensure that all safety precautions are being met, legal and ethical issues are being addressed, and that the treatment plan continues to stay on course for each individual client per the supervisor's guidance and therapeutic observation of the pre-licensed clinician.
